O Le Ala I Le Pule O Le Tautua Report

THE PATH TO LEADERSHIP IS SERVICE

Pacific people have been in Aotearoa / New Zealand for generations and have made many meaningful contributions to their new home: contributions in the spheres of sport, education, the arts, business, politics, and indeed in all areas of society. This research arises out of a concern over the lack of Pacific representation on governance boards. It is at the board tables in community, business and government contexts, that decisions are made; decisions that affect Pacific people and communities.

If Pacific communities are to be truly at home in Aotearoa / New Zealand, then they must have a seat at these governance tables. The Pacific voice is vital, not only in terms of having a say in things that affect them directly, but also in adding value to wider societal issues with the uniquely Pacific perspectives that they bring.
